The Department of Emergency Management is implementing several programmes to engage young people in discussions surrounding disaster preparedness planning and management. Emergency management officials say educating youth on risks and preparedness techniques fosters resilient communities and achieves a holistic approach to disaster preparedness. No widespread chicken shortage

The closure of two outlets of a well known restaurant due to a chicken shortage has sparked concern that the problem may be widespread. However officials are saying that is not the case. In a notice posted on its Facebook page Chicken Barn said its Bay Street and Worthing restaurants would be closed today due to a chicken shortage, but its other locations would be open. Some interpreted the message to mean that chicken is scarce in Barbados. However Chief Executive Officer of the Barbados Agricultural Society James Paul says the poultry problem may be restricted to that business.

Guyana: One-off cash grant for each household

A one-off cash grant of $200,000 GYD (just over $1930 BDS) will be distributed to every household in Guyana. The announcement was made by President Dr. Irfaan Ali during a special sitting of Parliament – his second address to Parliament since taking office. The cash grant forms part of a raft of measures the President says is part of a blueprint to take Guyana forward and safeguard the quality of life. President Ali further announced all public sector workers will earn no less than $100,000 GYD monthly by the end of 2025. Food security is also on the agenda of Guyana’s government, and work is continuing on creating a digital economy for the country.
