The focus will be on the future of tennis in 2025.
That’s the word from the new president of the Barbados Tennis Association, Craig Smith.
Smith replaced Dr. Raymond Forde as president after the recent BTA Annual General Meeting.
Dr. Forde served in that post for around 25 years and has been nominated as a lifetime Vice President for his dedication to the development of tennis on the island.
Speaking to CBC Sports, Smith says a vibrant school programme is essential to boosting the number of juniors involved in the sport.
While congratulating the Barbados Billie Jean King Cup Team on being awarded the team of the year at the recent BOA Awards Ceremony, smith says among the association’s concerns is the lack of young females playing the sport.
On the Men’s side at the national level, smith says the new year will bring a fresh challenge, with a Davis Cup World Group One playoff tie at the end of January.
