Over $1.2M in non-contributory benefits paid to PWDs

A total of one million, two hundred and sixteen thousand dollars in non-contributory benefits has been paid to those within the disabled community. This is according to Minister of Labour Colin Jordan. He was speaking ahead of the passing of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2024. He says in October 2024, 464 people benefitted; of which 291 were minors and 173 were adults.

New inclusive education policy to be completed soon

The Ministry of Education is going through the final stages of the procurement process to complete consultancy towards revamping the Education Act. Word of this from Minister of Education, Kay McConney. Additionally, Minister McConney says that by April, a new inclusive education policy should be completed. She said this process began in September 2024 with the help of a consultant.

Water issues at Hillaby Turner’s Hall resolved

The second term of 2024 got off to a smooth start for thousands of students and teachers, even though one primary school had to be closed early due to lack of water. This update is coming from Deputy Chief Education Officer Julia Beckles who explained there was a difficulty with a valve on water tank at Hillaby Turner’s Hall. Ms. Beckles says the matter at Hillaby Turner’s Hall has been resolved and classes will resume at that institution this morning. She thanks students, parents, staff and other stakeholders for their patience and understanding.
