27 dead horses found in California

By Lindsay Weber     CLEMENTS, California (KCRA) — A woman was arrested after dozens of dead horses were found along with several other malnourished horses as part of an animal neglect investigation in San Joaquin County. Deputies executed a search warrant at multiple properties in Clements on Wednesday. The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office said several malnourished horses were found on the premises with limited access to food or water. Approximately 27 dead horses were found and four other horses and one bull had to be euthanized due to their poor condition. Officials said 16 horses were rescued and are now in the care of Oakdale Equine Rescue. The sheriff’s office said animal services officers and veterinarians are still evaluating additional horses and animals due to the size of the property. Officials said Jan Johnson was arrested and booked into the San Joaquin County jail for cruelty to an animal, threatening a public official, criminal threats and possession of a short-barrel shotgun. Johnson is set to appear in court on Friday. The-CNN-Wire & © 2025 Cable News Network, Inc., a Warner Bros. Discovery Company. All rights reserved.

Small Craft Warning, High Surf Advisory remain in effect

The Small Craft Warning and High Surf Advisory remain in effect for Barbados, for above normal swell heights. This as model guidance indicates sea conditions will remain agitated through the remainder of the week and into the weekend. The Barbados Meteorological Services says a strengthening Atlantic high-pressure system is generating strong surface to low-level winds across the region. As a result, seas are rough with swell heights of 2.5m to 3.0m in open water reported from a NOAA buoy east of Barbados. The BMS says small craft operators should be prepared for the possibility of large open-water swells which can be hazardous to some vessels. Operation of smaller vessels can be difficult at times due to large swells. Some beach erosion is inevitable with most or all beaches submerged, particularly below the cliffs and specifically at times of high tide. Secure objects on the beach-front that may be swept away by the wave action. Loss of life or injury is possible, and the BMS is urging members of the public to use beaches with on-duty lifeguards if they intend to go into the water. Marine users are encouraged to monitor official sources for further information. This Small Craft Warning and High Surf advisory will be updated at noon on Sunday, January 26, 2025 or sooner if conditions warrant.
