5 remanded to Dodds for $4.6 million drug bust

Four Barbadians and one Tobagonian have been remanded to Dodds prison in connection with the importation of 4.6 million dollars of marijuana. They are Roydell Skeete, 40 of Sandy Hill Trace, Tobago, Damario Dottin, 27 of Brereton, Jamar Kirton, 35 of Sunbury, John Edey, 42 of Evelyn Road, and Wayne Chase, 53 of Edgecumbe Tenantry, all in St. Phillip are charged with possession; possession with intent to supply, trafficking and the importation of the illegal drug. They were not required to plead to the indictable charge when they appeared before Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant in the District “A” Magistrates’ court this morning. The men were held during a drug operation on February 9, at Welches Beach, Christ Church. The operation was conducted by members of the narcotics division of the Barbados Police Service and the Barbados Defence Force. During the operation, a number of packages of vegetable matter weighing 580.85 kilogrammes were seized. The men will appear in the Oistins Magistrates’ Court on February 20.

Barbados Pride squad named CG United Women’s Super 50 Cup

Aaliyah Alleyne will lead the Barbados Pride women in this year’s 2025 CG United Women’s Super50 Cup, set to be played in St. Kitts from February 22 to March 8. The squad was announced via a media release this week. It reads: Captain Alleyne, Vice-Captain Trishan Holder, Elecia Bowman, Shanika Bruce, Asabi Callender, Shamilia Connell, Naijanni Cumberbatch, Erin Deane, Kelia Elliot, Allison Gordon, Theanny Herbert-Mayers, Kycia Knight, Kyshonna Knight and Alisa Scantlebury. Barbados Women’s first match will be against Guyana’ Women on February 24, at the Conaree Sports Club.

Keith ‘Grell’ Griffith laid to rest

Local football legends joined family, friends, sports administrators and government officials, including Acting Prime Minister Santia Bradshaw at the Coral Ridge Memorial Gardens today, to bid farewell to former Barbados football captain and coach Keith ‘Grell’ Griffith. A remarkable Barbadian sportsman, Griffith had a passion for road tennis and football. However, it was the latter that made ‘Grell’ a household name as a player, coach and commentator. Awarded the Barbados Service Star in 2010 Griffith who passed away at age 80 was described by his contemporaries as a life changer.
