New Zealand defeats Windies Women by 8 runs

West Indies have been prevented from reaching their second women’s T20 World Cup final, as New Zealand have guaranteed there will be a first-time champion. The lady Ferns beat West Indies Women by eight runs in today’s second semifinal, to join South Africa in Sunday’s final. Playing at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, New Zealand women opted to bat first and posted 128 for 9. Deandra Dottin had impressive figures of 4 for 22, while Afy Fletcher took 2 for 23. Georgia Plimmer top scored with 33. West Indies slipped to 63 for 5 in pursuit, before Deandra Dottin’s Dynamic 33 from 22 balls, with 3 sixes, rejuvenated the chase. But Player of the Match Eden Carson with 3 for 29, and Amelie Kerr’s 2 for 14, put a halt to any thoughts of victory, as West Indies finished on 120 for 8 to lose by eight runs.

Hyatt Ziva to get fully underway by January 2025

The long-awaited Hyatt Ziva should get fully underway by January 2025. Developer Mark Maloney says by next month Menard Group, a company commissioned out of France, to create rock piers, is set to begin work. But he says while this project will reap massive dividends for the local construction sector, there is not enough resources on island with other projects ongoing. He was speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for another project on the west coast. Mr. Maloney says this project should employ about 1500 people overall. Already he has signed a US$90 million deal with the African Export-Import Bank, and arrangements with other financiers have been finalised.

Barbadians are being encouraged to be more risk-takers as it relates to investing in their country. The advice from Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley came during the groundbreaking for the newest tourism-related development on the island Rachelle Agard has that story.
