QEH probing message encouraging workers to withdraw labour

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital is investigating the circulation of a message encouraging workers to withdraw labour. The QEH says the message and associated actions were not sanctioned by the National Union of Public Workers, which represents the majority of hospital workers. Chief Executive Officer, Neil Clarke confirms there have been staff absences as the message made the rounds. In a statement issued after a management meeting earlier today, he expressed concern about the potential impact on patient care. Mr. Clarke says concerns about hazard pay appear to be the motivation behind the efforts to disrupt operations at the QEH.

Barbados Museum & Historical Society launches signature rum

A new Barbadian rum has entered the market and it’s associated with the Barbados Museum. The Garrison Grog is a 14-year-old rum produced at the Foursquare Rum Distillery. It was launched last evening at the Barbados Museum, where the idea of showcasing the island’s heritage in a bottle originated resulting in the production of Garrison Grog. Speaking at the event, Director of the Barbados Museum and Historical Society, Alissandra Cummins said the rum was created to celebrate their 90th anniversary as an authority of the history, heritage and culture of Barbados. Meanwhile Master Distiller & Master Blender at the Foursquare Rum Distillery Richard Seale says the company has been looking for ways to build out the tourism product through Barbadian heritage. He says this collaboration with the Museum is a step in the right direction, not only for his company but also for the country.
