Windies Women clinch five-wicket win over Ireland

Half-centuries from captain Hayley Matthews and Stafanie Taylor propelled the West Indies to a five-wicket win over Ireland in an official ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier warm-up fixture in Pakistan today.

Ireland Women, after winning the toss, posted a respectable 248 for eight from their 50 overs.

Laura Delany led the charge with an unbeaten 67, while Matthews claimed 3 for 62.

The West Indies Women then needed only 41.1 overs to reach 252 for five. Matthews led with the bat, scoring 55, and Taylor made 53 not out.

Zaida James, who shared in a 90-run opening stand with Matthews, made a patient 47.

The West Indies will take on Pakistan in their final warm-up fixture tomorrow.
