Structural fire destroys old Diamond Bar

A structural fire this morning destroyed the old Diamond Bar, Nelson Street, The City.

Station Officer at the Bridgetown Fire Station, Roger Bourne, says there was no source of ignition or electricity to the building, and the entryway to the building was padlocked.

However, he says vagrants frequent the area and will occupy any space that has a roof.

Mr. Bourne says normally they would respond to fires with two appliances, but given the devastating fire in Wellington Street almost a year ago, they ramped up their response.

The senior fire officer says a team of three appliances from the Bridgetown Fire Station, Worthing Fire Station, and the Bridgetown Port, with a combined 13 fire officers, responded to the blaze.

Mr. Bourne says they managed to get the fire under control quickly at the unoccupied building, which was used for housing plastic and glass bottles.
