The Barbados Police Service has provided information on reports of a shooting incident in Bridgetown, St. Michael.
They note that while a male is in custody relating to an incident at Cowell Street, Bridgetown, there were no injuries during the police-involved shooting. The Service said that “a series of events” surrounding a traffic operation led to the pursuit of a motor vehicle.
The full statement by police follows:
“Please note that there is misinformation pertaining to a shooting incident earlier today stating that police personnel were shot at during an incident earlier at Cowell Street, Bridgetown.
This has been circulated on social media and by word of mouth. Please note that this is not factual.
“Police were conducting a traffic operation within the city area when there was a series of events (still under investigation) which led to a pursuit of a motor vehicle by police.
“Police had reason to fire shots. However, no one was reported to be injured. A motor vehicle and a male is in custody assisting with our investigations.”
