The National Council on Substance Abuse, says substance abuse is a public health issue and must be treated as such.
Deputy Manager, Troy Wickham says it’s not solely a matter for the judiciary and everyone must play a part in combating the issue.
He says research over the years has shown persons as early as seven years have been exposed to a substance at least once in their lifetime.
This he says is occurring in the home, from friends or family members.
Mr. Wickham was a guest on CBC TV8’s Mornin’ Barbados.
Mr. Wickham says education is critical to enlightening Barbadians of the dangers along with collaboration with its partners.
