Opposition Leader Ralph Thorne is suggesting the Government set up a reinsurance fund to help persons with disabilities who may be encountering issues accessing coverage.
He made the point as he spoke on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Bill 2024.
Mr. Thorne says you can’t fault insurance companies because they are not negated to go into a contract with disabled persons as contracts are based on offer, acceptance and consideration.
Disability Advocate Edmund Hinkson responded to the insurance concerns made by the Opposition Leader during Debate.
He says the reinsurance fund which Mr.Thorne suggests should be created by Government, is already addressed in the proposed legislation.
He added that the financing for that fund would come through investments made by the trustees, donations from local, regional and international donors, and it also opens the door for the country to receive a lot more international aid.
