Pedestrian dies in hit-and-run collision

The Barbados Police Service is investigating an early morning collision which left a pedestrian dead.

Police noted that around 1:20 am today, Wednesday, December 11, 2024, they responded to the scene of a road traffic fatality where a 64-year-old male pedestrian was struck and died on the spot. That scene stretches from the Clyde Walcott roundabout along the road known as Waterford Boulevard, St. Michael. The victim in this collision has been identified as Cedric Beckles of Golden Rock, The Pine, St. Michael.

The Service also states that traffic has been and continues to be diverted away from the Waterford Boulevard area as their investigations are still ongoing. They added that they “are hoping to reopen the roadway to regular traffic as soon as possible. We are asking for all persons to avoid this area and plan alternative routes. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.”

The scene is about 150 meters south of the Clyde Walcott roundabout along the stretch of road known as Waterford Boulevard, St. Michael – Waterford bottom between the Combermere School and the roundabout on the highway.

Police received the information via a telephone call and responded to the scene, on arrival ambulance personnel were already onsite and had examined the individual and found no sign of life.

Further investigations revealed that the pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle which failed to remain at the scene.
Investigations are ongoing.
