Call for human rights commission to be established

There is a suggestion Barbados needs a human rights commission to address breaches of individual rights.

The advice from Chairman of the Constitutional Reform Commission, retired Justice the Most Honourable Christopher Blackman.

However, he says there is need for the correct support staff to form a secretariat when people seek redress.

He urges officials to activate the mechanism of the Public Service Appeals Board to do its job.

Mr. Blackman was as a guest on People’s Business.

Meanwhile, President of the Barbados Council for the Disabled and Constitutional Reform Commission member, the Most Honourable Kerryann Ifill says it is imperative members of the public are aware of their rights.
