Five national non-governmental charitable organisations and educational institutions are the first recipients of the inaugural Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) Foundation Owen Arthur Scholarship.
They are Unborn Justice, the SAVE Foundation, the Ashley Lashley Foundation, Lifelong Skills Training Incorporated and the Young Nature Conservationists Association.
The Scholarship was named in honour of the former Prime Minister, the late Professor the Right Honourable Owen Arthur, in recognition of his contributions to the cruise industry and Caribbean integration.
During the ceremony, the winners of the FCCA’s Essay Competition were also rewarded.
Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Ian Gooding-Edghill described the occasion as a proud moment for Barbados, noting the Scholarship’s introduction reflects the close relationship cultivated between Barbados and the FCCA.
In extending congratulations Julie Arthur, widow of the late Professor the Right Honourable Owen Arthur, says the winners have cemented their names and that of their organisation in history’s page.
