Barbados is to confer its highest national honour, the Honorary Freedom of Barbados, to India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
This award will be presented at a formal ceremony and parade on the 58th anniversary of Barbados’ Independence and the third anniversary of the transition to Republican status on November 30 at Kensington Oval.
The announcement comes following recent bilateral talks between Barbados’ Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley and Mr. Modi on the sidelines of the recently held CARICOM-India summit in Guyana.
The Government of Barbados will honour Mr. Modi in recognition of the compassion and humanity which he showed to Barbadians during their darkest hour.
Officials say his strategic leadership and urgent action taken to assist Barbados with Covishield vaccines changed the course of the COVID-19 pandemic.
