Barbados & India hold bilateral talks

Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has engaged in bilateral talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The talks were held on the sidelines of the 2nd CARICOM-India Summit in Guyana Wednesday, and covered a variety of issues.

Modi arrived in Guyana on a state visit – the first by an Indian head of state in more than 50 years.

Meetings were also held separately with other Caribbean leaders in Guyana.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi has made a suggestion for a third CARICOM-India Summit to be organised in India.

In his closing remarks at the Summit, he told Caribbean leaders his country is committed to taking these relations to new heights.

At the end of the forum a joint statement was issued.

The leaders have agreed to promote further development of the CARICOM-India partnership through enhanced coordination of positions on the global international agenda, and strengthen economic and commercial relations and cooperation.

They also committed to people-to-people contact and the strengthening of cultural linkages.
