Barbados tops Taste of the Caribbean yet again

Team Barbados has come out on top again at the Taste of the Caribbean Competition in Miami, defending its Caribbean Team of the Year award after a hiatus brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Seven teams from across the Caribbean took part in the competition organised by the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association, which ran from November 18 to 20 at Florida International University’s Kovens Conference Centre.

Barbados through Junior Chef Dejuan Toppin also copped the Junior Chef of the Year Award.

Chef Dejuan brought the flavours of Barbados to life with his marinated pork loin, sweet potato, and plantain creation.

He was in winners’ row again, copping the Hans Schenk Commemorative Award for the Most Innovative Indigenous Ingredients.

Alex Chandler was recognised for the best non-alcoholic drink.

The Pastry Chef of the Year – Silver Award went to Rickeena Kirton and Rynaldo Joseph, the Chef of the Year – Silver.

The Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association extended congratulations, saying Team Barbados’ victory proves once again the island is home to some of the best culinary talent in the region.
