Multimillion dollar medical equipment upgrades coming for QEH

130 million dollars has been approved by government for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital to upgrade its medical equipment. This comes from Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Wellness Davidson Ishmael. He was speaking at the Cancer Support Services’ Annual Conference. Minister Ishmael stated that this investment in equipment will include a machine he believes to be a game changer in the treatment of cancer in Barbados. Mr. Ishmael also stated that according to the most recent survey done by the Barbados National Registry, there were a thousand new cases of people diagnosed with cancer in one year. However, while the number of confirmed cases is alarming, the report also shows the survival rate has also risen, which is positive for the country.

Barbados committed to complying with int’l tax standards

Barbados has signalled its commitment to complying with international tax standards, by signing a new agreement. At a ceremony in Paris, France, Minister in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, Ryan Straughn, signed the document on behalf of Barbados along with eight other jurisdictions. The “Multilateral Convention to Facilitate the Implementation of the Pillar Two Subject to Tax Rule” seeks to ensure fairer and better international tax arrangements, particularly for developing countries. Minister Straughn highlighted a number of recent legislative changes to Barbados’ tax regime. He says the reforms are an important part of the island’s efforts to drive investment and build climate and economic resilience.

Wanted man ‘armed and dangerous’

The Barbados Police Service (TBPS) is seeking the assistance of the public in locating 19-year-old Roshawn Jaeir Kangal alias Lil Johnny, who is wanted for questioning in connection with serious criminal matters. Police says Kangal is considered armed and dangerous. His last known address is McClean Gap, Silver Sands, Christ Church. He’s approximately five feet, ten inches (5′ 10″) tall, of dark complexion and is slim built. Kangal is advised that he can present himself to the Criminal Investigations Department (Southern Division), accompanied by an attorney of his choice. Anyone who may know the whereabouts of Roshawn Jaeir Kangal, is asked to contact the Criminal Investigations Department (Southern Division) at the Oistins Police Station, Oistins, Christ Church at telephone numbers 418-2608/2612, Police Emergency at 211, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 or the nearest police station. Members of the public are also reminded it is a serious offence to harbour or assist wanted individuals and anyone caught committing this offence can be prosecuted.
