Christ Church kicks off month of activities

The parish of Christ Church will be abuzz with activities during October. This was made known as the Christ Church Parish Independence Committee held a church service at the Silver Sands Church of God this morning. It is the first event to kick off activities for Parish Month. CBC News spoke with Chairperson Dwane Goddard, as well as Parish Ambassadors Shaquille Sealy and Zanae Nicholls, about the various activities happening during the month.

Flash-Flood Warning in effect for some areas

There are heavy to intense showers across northern and central districts, resulting in the Barbados Meteorological Services issuing a Flash-Flood Warning for these areas. A light wind regime is dominant across the region and as a result, localized activity will be affecting the island. Scattered heavy to intense showers, as well as scattered thunderstorms, are occurring across the northern and central districts of Barbados, with rainfall accumulation of 2 to 4 inches (50 to 100 mm). A Flash-Flood Warning is issued when rapid flooding due to heavy or excessive rainfall in a short period of time (generally less than 6 hours) is occurring or is imminent in the warning area. Take note of the following possible impacts:-Water settlements on roads and fields, at the foot of hills and coastal roads-Objects or debris from higher elevations becoming embedded within fast-moving water flows-Delays on traffic routes, with some roads becoming impassable in and out of minor towns-Residents and visitors should also be aware that this alert level could elevate to red at short notice. The public is encouraged to monitor the BMS, DEM and GIS websites and their respective social media pages along with the local media networks for further updates. This Flash Flood Warning was issued at 12:15 p.m. today, Sunday, October 6, 2024, and will be terminated at 6:00 p.m. or sooner if conditions warrant

Some areas under Severe Thunderstorm Watch

Severe thunderstorm activity is expected across northern and central districts. The Barbados Meteorological Services has therefore issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for these areas. Localized activity is affecting the island. Scattered heavy to intense showers and scattered severe thunderstorms are expected. Take note of the following possible impacts:-Lighting activity at or near your location could result in power outages if lighting strikes power utility infrastructure-Persons are reminded that lightning strikes can be life-threatening. The public is encouraged to monitor the DEM and GIS websites and their respective social media pages along with the local media networks for further information. This Severe Thunderstorm Watch was issued at 12:15 p.m. today Sunday, October 6, 2024 and will be terminated at 6:00 p.m. or sooner if conditions warrant.
