UPDATE: Police identify victim in shooting death

The Barbados Police Service has identified the man who lost his life in a shooting incident at Checker Hall Cross Road, St. Lucy on Thursday, January 9. He is 30-year-old Vere Ricardo Hoyte of Isolation Road, Belleplaine, St Andrew. The Service noted in a press release that police at the District ‘E’ Police Station received a report around 5:00 p.m. that a male was shot at Checker Hall Cross Road, St. Lucy: “Police personnel responded and our investigations so far revealed that the now deceased Vere Ricardo Hoyte 30 years of Isolation Road, Belleplaine, St Andrew was liming in the area when a motor vehicle stopped close by. A series of gunshots were heard, and he was seen lying on the ground. Medical attention was summoned and he was later pronounced dead at the scene by a medical doctor. “The Barbados Police Service (TBPS) is appealing to anyone who can provide any information pertaining to this incident, to kindly contact the Criminal Investigations Department (District ‘E’), at 422-0813 or 419-1737, Police emergency at 211, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIPS (8477) or any Police Station.”

Wanted man in police custody

A man who was the subject of a “Wanted Man” bulletin issued on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, in connection with serious criminal matters, is now in custody. He is 25-year-old Shane Jaquoune Chris Jordan, alias “piss” or “pissy Shane”, of Haynesville, St. James, He presented himself with a family member on Thursday, January 9, 2025 and is currently assisting police personnel with their investigations. The Barbados Police Service thanked the public and the media for assistance in this matter.
