Fisherfolk facing a choppy fishing season

Fishermen are in a race against time. The fishing season is scheduled to start in November and more than half the complement of boats are still on dry dock and not ready for the high seas. When a CBC News crew visited the Bridgetown Fisheries Complex on the Princess Highway today it was a hive of activity, with fisherfolk saying there is a glimmer of hope. Trevor Thorpe reports.

Outreach programme coming for local artistes

An outreach programme for local artistes is coming. That’s according to Chief Executive Officer of COSCAP, Erica Smith. She was speaking at a prize-giving ceremony at the Wyndham Grand Barbados Resort yesterday. Ms. Smith says the initiative is coming off the momentum gained from this year’s Crop Over Festival. Flash Flood Warning extended overnight

The Flash Flood Warning has been extended overnight. The Barbados Meteorological Services says unstable conditions trailing the tropical wave will continue to affect the island overnight, generating occasional moderate to heavy showers and the possibility of thunderstorms. Rainfall accumulations over northern parishes are already up to 4 inches with an additional 1 to 2 inches likely across the island overnight, therefore the Flash Flood Warning has been extended. The public is encouraged to continue monitoring official for further updates. This Flash Flood Warning will be terminated at 6:00 a.m. tomorrow Friday, September 27, 2024
