Estimate & Expenditure Debate set for February 17

The Estimates and Expenditures for the Financial Year 2025-2026 have been laid in Parliament by Attorney General Dale Marshall on behalf of the Deputy Prime Minister and Senior Minister Duguid. The estimated current revenue is close to 4 billion dollars and Estimated total Expenditure more than 5 billion. It was approved by Cabinet yesterday 2025, and laid in the House of Assembly last night. The Estimate and Expenditure Debate will begin on Monday, February 17, at 10 a.m.

Employers urged to look out for signs of domestic abuse

A local charity wants employers across the country to take some simple steps to ensure their organisation is spotting signs of domestic abuse and helping their staff find the right support. Advocates Against Domestic Violence, which was established in 2018, says experiences may be exhibited in different ways. Chairperson, Barbara Daniel-Goddard says most persons, regardless of public or private sector, will be hesitant to let people know they are experiencing domestic abuse at home. Ms Daniel-Goddard was a Guest on CBC TV8’s Mornin’ Barbados. Meanwhile, Vice Chair, Caroline Bennet-Jarvis says it’s important survivors of domestic abuse make that connection as she highlighted her story and action taken by her workplace.

Sargassum conditions expected to fluctuate over the next 3 months

Sargassum conditions are expected to fluctuate over the next three months in the Eastern Caribbean. This is according to the Sargassum Sub-Regional Outlook Bulletin for February 1 to May 1, 2025, published by the Sargassum Team at the Centre for Resource Management and Environmental Studies, CERMES at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies at Cave Hill. According to its synopsis, sargassum continues to increase across the central Atlantic, however, cloud cover is affecting the effectiveness of long-term forecasting. Its general outlook states mild to moderate influxes are expected across the region. In the southern islands, which Trinidad and Tobago falls under, moderate influxes are expected in February followed by a decline through March and April. The northern islands can expect mild influxes during February with more noticeable influxes during March, while the middle islands should look out for mild to moderate influxes, with a significant increase in late March.
