Richard Alexander Alleyne in police custody

A St. Michael man who was the subject of a “Wanted Man” bulletin issued on Monday, July 29, 2024, is now in Police custody. He is Richard Alexander Alleyne, alias ‘Gunny’ of Gilkes Land, Hindsbury Road, St. Michael, who was wanted in connection with serious criminal matters. Alleyne was arrested and brought into custody on Saturday, September 28, 2024, and is assisting police personnel with their investigations. The Barbados Police Service (TBPS) wishes to thank the general public and the media for their assistance in this matter.

A retired nurse Barbados’ latest centenarian

A retired nurse who cared for generations of patients in the UK is Barbados’ latest centenarian. Josephine Bailey was the toast of the day as President, Her Excellency the Most Honourable Dame Sandra Mason joined family, friends and well-wishers to celebrate her 100th birthday. Ms. Bailey Nee Lockhart, who was born in Dominica, moved to Barbados in 1940 before being accepted for nurse training in the UK during the Windrush period of the 1960s. Daughter, Judith Lockhart says her mother loved carnival in London and was an inspiration to many. Ms. Bailey is a mother of four, a grandmother of nine and a great-grandmother of seven. A recent tragedy, where her first grandson Nicholas Murrell was shot and killed, saw the family paying tribute to him. Murrell was among the three who died in the mass shooting in Nelson Street, The City.

Keeping the youth hydrated

Corporate Barbados continues to partner with Hydrate Barbados on its quest to keep the nation’s children hydrated. Through its Hydrate Caribbean Programme, free water stations are being installed at schools across the island. The latest institution to benefit is the St Mary’s School, thanks to Farmers Choice. Marketing Coordinator at HIPAC Limited Kitisheanna Williams says the company is proud to be onboard. Principal Grace Wickham welcomed the donation.
