High interest for PV & wind turbine projects on island

Minister of Agriculture, Food and Nutritional Security, Indar Weir is reporting high interest for photovoltaics (PV) and wind turbine Projects on island. He says marginal lands allowed to go fallow are now being targeted. The revelation was made during a forum for Small Island Developing States at the ongoing World Food Forum in Italy. He says the queue is long for renewable energy in agriculture. He touted the benefits including a reduction in the overall energy costs along with the heavy reliance on fossil fuels. Mr. Weir adds opportunities also exist in the region for investments in irrigation.

BMS closely monitoring progress low pressure area

The Barbados Meteorological Services is closely monitoring the progress of an area of low pressure near 16N 49W at 11 a.m. LST. The system is about 1154 km or 717 miles to the east-northeast of Barbados. The low-pressure area is expected to track north of the island Thursday into Friday, as such, no direct impacts are likely. Environmental conditions are marginally conducive to the slow development of the feature later this week. As the feature nears the island chain light wind speeds are anticipated Wednesday and Thursday resulting in warm daytime temperatures with possible isolated localised shower activity into the afternoon. The public is encouraged to official sources with further updates over the coming days.

Board of management receives investigation results for noxious odour

The board of management of Grantley Adams Memorial School has received investigation results into the noxious odour wrong which caused the suspension of face-to-face classes. Chairman George Griffith says the team that conducted the test revealed the findings to the board on Monday and recommendations are now being taken into consideration. Mr. Griffith says while classes are currently being held online, the Ministry of Education and Principal are in the process of working out options for the continuation of school. He adds an online meeting was held with parents and guardians last week regarding the matter.
